Diet Vs Healthy Lifestyle

Diet-Vs-Healthy-Lifestyle

Where to Begin?

It's hard to know where to begin. Between vegan diets, calorie counting, the Paleo diet, low-carb diets, and many others, dieting can be extremely confusing. If you're a serial dieter, switching from one meal plan to the next almost as often as you change your shoes, it might be time to start making lifestyle changes.

Over the years, diets have become a trendy part of the health industry. Bad diets can lead to temporary weight loss but can lead to malnutrition as well. Restricting food group can lead to nutrient deficiencies. The problem with diets, however, is that they have a timeline and when one is done dieting, most people resort back to what they were usually eating, which causes the weight to come back.

Diets usually appeal to people who are looking to lose weight quickly without exercise as if taking a magic pill, or following some insane diet regimen will be a quick fix to achieve an individual’s health goals. The problem is, these quick fix diets often involve unhealthy and unbalanced meal plans that may yield weight loss but lead to decreased health and wellness. The way to do that is to make a commitment to living a healthy life, nourishing your body with proper and balanced nutrients, participating in the physical activity that your body needs to stay strong and vital, and taking the time to allow your body to properly recover and repair itself. There is no short-term, quick fix when it comes to vitality and longevity.

Low Calories

If the diet is low calorie, your hormones and metabolism could get out of whack because your body needs food in order to run properly and healthy. It’s important to eat the recommended number of calories based on your age and level of exercise.

While diets may help you lose some weight temporarily, lifestyle change is the key to long-term weight maintenance and health.

Healthy Lifestyle

A Healthy lifestyle includes what you eat, how you manage stress, how much you exercise and more. Lifestyle changes require you to maintain a certain level of dieting and restricting say how much fast food and junk food you eat, etc., but there are not as many restrictions placed on it. If you succumb to temptation here and there, it’s not the end of the world but you are aware and might feel a little bit of quilt but are still aware of your actions without completely giving up.

Eating Out with Freinds

Eating out or dining with friends when you're dieting can be tough, if not impossible. If your diet plan restricts certain foods or only allows you to eat at particular times of day, you may have to turn down invites to parties and other functions. By changing your lifestyle and forming good eating habits, however, you needn't ever turn down an invitation out. At restaurants, you can just make healthier choices and choose smaller portions without worrying it will ruin your progress.

Healthy Behaviors

Healthy behaviors are not motivated by weight. Instead, they see how much better their lives are, and, as a result, are internally motivated. Weight is still part of the equation but far from the most important factor. Healthy behaviors become a preferred way to live instead of an obligation.

If you want to lose weight you eat fewer calories than your body burns, but it is important to not restrict your calories too much and sacrifice lean body mass. To burn more calories, you add calorie-burning activities into your day.

Here are a few easy changes you can make to put you on track to a healthier lifestyle:

  • Toss the sugary beverages or at least limit them. Soda and juices are loaded with sugar and empty calories.
  • Eat breakfast, starting the day with a nutritious meal will help prevent you from getting too hungry throughout the day, or binging on unhealthy foods later in the day.
  • Pack healthy snacks, such as fruit, nuts or vegetables. Choosing these snacks over chips or candy can make a huge impact on your overall health and will provide sustainable energy throughout your day.
  • Eat more whole grains. Be particular about eating whole grain bread, sprouted grain, whole wheat pasta or brown rice.
  • Eat more fruit and vegetables. Incorporating more of these will help you feel full, provide nutrients and prevent you from reaching for that after lunch muffin or cookie.
  • Drink more wáter. Water is one of the most important aspects of living a healthier life.

Enjoy everything in moderation. You do not need to be so restrictive on yourself, when you are committed to a healthy lifestyle for the long haul it is okay to indulge and eat your favorite unhealthy foods on occasion.

Do not make yourself feel guilty for enjoying food, simply eat healthy the majority of the time.

I believe that learning to eat well in modern society is more of an art than science. The choice of what to eat is a careful balance between taste, nutrition and how food makes you feel.

The small steps allow them to make changes that work well for their lives. There are constantly shifting and re-prioritizing that never stops.
